Bret Hart started as a referee at the beginning of his career; he even sold tickets to his father’s wrestling events before he became a professional wrestler.

But finally, in 1978, Bret made his professional debut; one of the wrestlers couldn’t perform that day, and Hart was sent inside the ring to fill someone else’s position.
