Chapter 10: Fire Runes (2024)

“Just two more months, and I’ll be free.”

Thinking of the opening day of Tianyan Academy, Zhao Ling’er’s face showed anticipation and joy. To her, Lin Hao was clearly just an obstacle in her life that she couldn’t wait to get rid of.

Catching the change in her expression, Lin Hao sneered inwardly. He knew her thoughts all too well. With the system now in his possession, Lin Hao was confident that those who looked down on him today would see him in a different light in the future.

Their conversation ended abruptly as Zhao Ling’er turned and walked toward her room.

“Did you come in and touch my things?”

Soon, Zhao Ling’er’s voice came from inside. Hearing this, Lin Hao raised an eyebrow. He remembered putting the book back but had reversed its cover. Zhao Ling’er was so observant that she noticed even this small detail!

As his thoughts raced, Zhao Ling’er emerged, holding the Compendium of Spells, her eyes coldly fixed on Lin Hao.

“Weren’t there poisonous spiders loose in the house just now?” Lin Hao replied calmly. “I was worried one might be hiding in your bed, so I checked.”

Zhao Ling’er frowned, clearly unappreciative of Lin Hao’s actions.

“From now on, don’t enter my room without my permission,” she said coldly, her eyes indifferent.

“No problem.”

Lin Hao shrugged indifferently.

“Remember, our marriage is just a sham.”

Zhao Ling’er’s voice was icy. “In two months, I’ll write a divorce letter, ending our marriage. As compensation, I’ll return double the bride price.”

Hearing this, a surge of anger rose within Lin Hao. Double? Even ten or a hundred times couldn’t compensate for his dignity!

“Do as you please.”

Suppressing his anger, Lin Hao turned and silently walked to the corner, taking out a quilt and laying it on the floor.

Despite having lived as a son-in-law in the Zhao family for half a year, Lin Hao had never truly submitted. His weakness made resistance futile. But now, with the system activated, he planned to bide his time and grow stronger. In two months, who would divorce whom was still uncertain.

Seeing Lin Hao’s unusually calm demeanor, Zhao Ling’er was surprised. She had expected anger and had prepared herself for his outburst. Instead, his reaction was so composed.

“Father was right; weak people have no temper at all.”

Zhao Ling’er sighed inwardly. Her opinion of Lin Hao plummeted to rock bottom.

Zhao Ling’er’s voice wasn’t loud, but Lin Hao’s keen hearing caught every word. He took a deep breath, struggling to contain his anger at her arrogance and disdain. If Zhao Ling’er weren’t still his nominal wife, he might have had the Tarantula bite he.

“I must earn more money quickly and enhance my pets.”

Lying on the floor, Lin Hao made a firm decision. Even if he left the Zhao family, he wouldn’t leave in disgrace. As for the divorce, it didn’t bother him. The world was full of women; he’d find someone better.

After extinguishing the candle, the room fell into darkness. In her room, Zhao Ling’er changed into a light red sheer nightgown, her fair skin making her look stunning. Unbeknownst to her, a fly was watching her every move from the corner.

“Though she’s beautiful, she’s not worth my trouble. Divorce will be a relief.”

Lin Hao lay with his hands behind his head, watching through the Kung Fu Fly’s eyes without any emotional disturbance. After changing, Zhao Ling’er didn’t go to bed but sat cross-legged on the bed, entering a meditative state.

“She’s already a Level 4 Mage and still works so hard. I can’t fall behind now.”

Seeing this, Lin Hao felt a surge of motivation. He quickly sat up and began meditating. Although he wasn’t skilled in rune magic, his mental power had already reached the level of a Level 1 Mage, making meditation much easier.

Within moments, the spiritual energy in the room harmonized with Lin Hao’s mental power. As he continued meditating, his mental power grew stronger. After about an hour, when his mental power was fully charged, Lin Hao began tracing a basic fire rune from memory.

“Fire rune, activate.”

Lin Hao’s mind moved, and the rune glowed as spiritual energy rapidly converged. A fireball formed, illuminating the room. The fireball, now the size of a fist, radiated intense heat, indicating significant destructive power. Lin Hao had officially stepped into the realm of mages.

“Hmm?”

At that moment, Zhao Ling’er, meditating in the inner room, opened her eyes. The energy fluctuation from Lin Hao’s fire spell had startled her.

“Such pure fire energy. Who’s casting a spell?”

Zhao Ling’er stood up and walked towards the outer room. The Kung Fu Fly, watching from the corner, relayed this to Lin Hao.

As the door opened, Lin Hao extinguished the fireball and pretended to sleep. Standing in the doorway, Zhao Ling’er looked around suspiciously, finding no trace of the fire energy. Her eyes fell on the sleeping Lin Hao, the only other person in the room.

Could the energy fluctuation have come from him? Impossible!
