Have you ever run out of water while hiking? How bad was it if so?
@2011woodlandsМесяц назад +1
yes with the army, many miles in severe heat carrying a heavy pack, urine was almost blood.
@2manysignsМесяц назад +2
Only once at age 5 about 5 mile hike to go fishing with 2 guys 3 yrs. older than me in Texas summer sun . Probably in a dangerous condition and crying so much that it canceled the fish trip and we turned around . They thought I was a pansy and if one of them hadn't been my brother who knows . I was relatively intrepid already at that age but honestly I imagine it really was pretty serious . Anyhow , I'll never forget that feeling and that damn blazing sun . Almost in a panic . Hard to imagine just how much suffering people have endured in dehydrated states . Best to not let that happen if possible . Super hike Super Woman !

The California deserts rock!
Being from here I guess I’m biased.
However, they are awesome.@tinman610Месяц назад +2
Water depends where you are. 40 years of hiking in Western Canada and never filtered or treated any water. I Just drink from almost any moving water. Never had an issue. But im not saying you should do it too. The water is purer here yes, but you still need to be cautious. Flipside, I spent 6 years in Arizona and never drank the water no matter what. When you did find waterholes there were usually plenty of animal tracks around it. I usually carried 4 liters for a day or half day hike and only drank what I carried.

I watched California Through My Lense do this trail a few months ago, there is a train museum in San Diego that has a scale model of this bridge on their set, great place to visit for a family.

Awesome! I did this hike, but started at Jucumba Hot Springs. It was nice going through the train tunnels. 16 miles total in the month of January. It was well worth it! Thank you for your post!
@AliceFordAdventures Месяц назад +1
I met a biker that had come on that trail and it sounded like a really awesome route as well. If I ever do it again, I will most likely try that way.
@mswolf3595Месяц назад
@@AliceFordAdventures You won’t regret it. It’s pretty cool!

Thank you, Alice! Excellent! You know as a railroad fan I was going to watch this one! Kudos to you for undertaking this difficult trail. You are a very brave and athletic young lady! Doesn't look like a trail for seniors! 😉 Thankfully I was able to view it through your lens! If that rail line is not reactivated, it looks like it would make an excellent trail for biking and hiking! (See Rails to Trails Conservatory).

I have never ran out of water but one time I left my water filter at home and went on a strenuous day hike in Banff, up Cascade (that's the mountain seen on every postcard) There was plenty of water running downhill but no filter, so I drank right from a stream. At that elevation, chances water was good, filled with essential minerals and the wildlife away and not in cause. Never felt any better. Good clean spring water 🏔️
@AliceFordAdventures Месяц назад +1
I sure do love a good drink from an alpine stream, I’ve done that too

Why don’t you get a pair of snake boots? Love jim
@AliceFordAdventures Месяц назад
Thank you Jim. I have seen snakes plenty of times but they have never been aggressive, I would rather be observant or walk with a stick then go crashing through the bush with protective boots
@gdavew63Месяц назад
Great video Alice. I was wondering what the temperature was when you hiked this. Seeing you were wearing black pants. I did that once during a fall hike, then by noontime I was feeling the heat. I usually green, blue or gray colors, and I get the hiking pants that can become shorts by removing the lower half of the legs…
@AliceFordAdventures Месяц назад +1
It was in the low 80s I believe. I would not recommend shorts on this hike with all the thorn bushes, cactus and rocks. I also try to keep my skin protected from the sun

Alice, Where did you get your old school Red Lace Hikers. I have a friend that wants a pair. I look everywhere, but no success. And ideal where l can find them. P.S. Glad l didn't have to do that much rock scrambling. You're an Amazing Woman !!! 9 Lives 🐾 Appalachian Adventure Guides

Those are Columbia and I bought mine on Gear Exchange which sells often times new items that are sent back from stores. I think Columbia however still sells them but I got mine for something crazy like $30
