While working as an architect in the Proposal Design Division at PT Arkonin, I contributed to a project that won first place in a competition to design a train station at an Indonesian university. Our team's design was even featured in the prestigious media outlet Architecture@09. We aimed to create stations harmoniously integrated with their surroundings and enable convenient connections. We drew inspiration from the concept of movement, which reflects the lively nature of train travel. By incorporating sleek, transparent materials like glass and metal frames, we achieved a more streamlined appearance that seamlessly blended with the environment.

d i v i n e i n t e r v e n t i o nRestorative work is exciting in that your task, as a design/build team, is to carefully not impose yourself but to breathe new life and restore character to a building that once was. There is an interesting picture given in the Bible that may shed understanding on this,“The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone can do all things.”” Ezekiel‬ ‭37:1-3‬It may not be an exciting venture for many flamboyant Architects, who generally strive to put their mark in the land, but the point is, the restorative task requires a heart that will bring freshness to the tired soul of a building or place that once had the vibrant spirit for which it was first created.Individual expression - No! Branding - No! Signature - No!The list goes on, but the matter is resolutely defined, that still, design DOES matter.exterior & interior architecture - project managementRestoration of Sanctuary 1 Trinity Methodist Church (circa 1963)Kuala Lumpur#TMC #FSHDesign #designdoesmatter

In a refurbishment exercise, what does it take to unite or bind ‘in-between spaces’ into a complete whole? Sealing off an obvious corridor, not by cutting out natural lighting in total, but by introducing an atrium between existing and new volumes is likely to result in an architectural intervention that can be rather distinctive. (as seen here.)The design simplicity, I believe, can be quite cost effective as well. In more ways than one, it demonstrates clever thinking. 😊#architecturalatriums#designsimply#royalchulanpenang

"In the quiet studio, an architectural drawing unfolds, a silent ode to the harmony of form and function."Drawings are always the backbone of architectural practice; and it has always been hand-drawn for centuries until quite recently. They're immensely important as a means of visualisation and design communication to others in team and to clients. They let you plan ahead and solve problems, resolve details far before the buildings are materialised. They are effective method of documentation, and also to direct collaborators, be it during concept development stage, or even construction stage and beyond.📌ET Studio, Jakarta, Indonesia#envirotec#enviroteccreatives#experiential#experientialdesign#design#interiordesign#innovation#wellbeingdesign#workculture#sustainability #drawing #architeturedraw

Bee Eu Tan, the founder of BETA, firmly believes that "old is gold." Renowned for her dedication to local conservation and adaptive reuse projects, she advocates for the preservation and transformation of existing structures. In her eyes, the most environmentally sustainable building is one that already exists. Here's a closer look at the benefits of adaptive reuse for our readers to ponder:1. Environmental sustainabilityAdaptive reuse presents an opportunity to repurpose existing structures, significantly reducing the need for demolition and the associated carbon emissions. By avoiding major construction activities involved in building new structures, adaptive reuse is celebrated worldwide as a promising sustainable approach.2. Preserving heritageBeyond extending the lifespan of existing structures, adaptive reuse allows us to pass down the intangible historical narratives woven into these buildings. It's not just about physical preservation; it's about honoring the stories and memories of the past.3. Cost and time efficiencyBy sidestepping demolition, we not only save on demolition costs but also minimize unnecessary waste. Adaptive reuse also slashes significant below-ground structure costs and streamlines the construction process, saving both time and money. The adaptability of existing structures enables swift occupancy and revenue generation, eliminating the need to start from scratch. This approach is particularly advantageous in densely populated areas, where it enables us to redirect resources towards eco-friendly systems for enhanced cost efficiency.Embracing these advantages, BETA has successfully breathed new life into numerous old buildings. Take a peek at BETA's Gold award-winning adaptive reuse projects, the Penang Harmony Centre, Kedah Digital Library, and Penang Digital Library, to witness our commitment to sustainable design in action. Keep an eye out for our next adaptive reuse venture: the Bukit Mertajam Market.#honesty #respect #humility https://lnkd.in/gPDnu_tH

One of the great things about the creative aspects of the profession of architecture is that the results of the design process can be so varied and interesting. No two buildings need to be the same – unless that is the design, such as a pair of towers in Kuala Lumpur! Frequently, this means that there is a need to design and create associated elements of the buildings as well, so that they all contribute to the look and functionality of the finished project. You can’t just use off-the-shelf components and hope they fit the design. Latham Australia Pty. Ltd. understands the creative process and meets this challenge head-on. We offer an extensive range of products in an enormous variety, all of which can be made to measure. What’s more, our in-house engineers can work with you to design and manufacture new versions of our award-winning products, and your design will be realised exactly as planned. Embracing Johor Bahru's Heritage: A Closer Look at Quayside JBCC's Architectural DesignQuayside JBCC isn't just another development in Johor Bahru; it's a tribute to the city's rich heritage and cultural identity. Our architectural approach celebrates the essence of Johor Bahru, drawing inspiration from its history, traditions, and local craftsmanship. Subtle nods to the city's past woven seamlessly into the design. One of the most striking features of Quayside JBCC is its facade, adorned with motifs reminiscent of leaves and gumbeer cubes. These design elements pay homage to Tan Hiok Née, a prominent figure in Johor Bahru's history known for his contributions to the black pepper and gumbeer trade. By incorporating these motifs into the building's exterior, we're not just creating a visually stunning structure; we're telling a story—a story of Johor Bahru's heritage and the people who shaped it.But our commitment to honouring Johor Bahru's heritage goes beyond aesthetics. Throughout Quayside JBCC, you'll find spaces designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia and belonging, from the pedestrian-friendly retail areas to the communal gathering spaces around the project. We believe that architecture is more than just buildings; it's about creating environments that resonate with the people who inhabit them and the surrounding community. As you explore our vision for Quayside JBCC, you’ll appreciate the intricate details and thoughtful touches that reflect the spirit of Johor Bahru. Each element of the design—from the materials being used to the layout of the spaces—has been carefully considered to ensure that Quayside JBCC not only enhances the urban landscape but also enriches the cultural fabric of Johor Bahru. #JohorHeritage #CulturalDesign #ArchitecturalTribute
